Denise’s dream hole in one goal achieved

- GOLF GEOFF GARNETT

DENISE Booth is a stalwart member of Romiley Golf Club and has played golf for 42 years without ever getting a hole in one.

Denise, who plays off a very useful 10.1 handicap, finally made her dream come true when playing with Audrey Jones at Romiley.

It was a cool and breezy May day when Denise hit her six hybrid up the steep uphill 126 yard par 3 15th hole.

The ball landed at the front of the green and bounced towards the flag but neither Denise nor Audrey could see the bottom of the flag.

Audrey commented: “If you can’t find the ball on the green, look in the hole.”

Not wanting to be presumptuous, Denise approached the green with a chipper but found the ball in the hole.

She said: “I’m delighted to have had a hole in one after 42 years of playing golf, and I hope the teasing from my golfing friends will now stop!”

Prestwich Golf Club provided the best weather conditions (assisted by Alliance Captain Chris ‘Sunny’ Lee) of the winter season so far and a very challenging course with slick greens which tested all of the players as they played for the Bert Thompson Trophy.

The pro am winners, who also won the Bert Thompson Trophy, were Bramall Park duo Craig Daggitt and Andy Ince with a great haul of 47 points.
