Liverpool trip proves fruitful for Under 16s

CHESHIRE Boys under 16s enjoyed their trip to Allerton Manor GC in Liverpool as they took on their Lancashire counterpar­ts.

The morning Foursomes saw Cheshire show their intent and talent as they romped into a 3-1 lead.

Taking the points for Cheshire were Charlie Ward (Wilmslow) and Daniel Hayes (Bramhall) 6/5, Cole Self (Ringway) and Aaron Mohun (Delamere Forest) 4/2 and Lucas Kuiper (Disley) and Harry Kell (Sandiway) 2/1.

The only loss by two up was for Ben Buchanan (High Legh) and Harry Godwin (Delamere Forest).

The afternoon singles saw Lancashire bite back in the first match with a one-up defeat for Charlie Ward but the next match saw Cheshire restore their lead with a big 8/6 win for Daniel Hayes.

Cole Self halved his match then wins for Aaron Mohun one up and Lucas Kuiper 4/3 put Cheshire firmly in the driving seat.

After a 2/1 loss for Harry Kell, Cheshire sealed victory with wins in the final two games for Ben

Buchanan 4/3 and Harry Godwin one-up.

A very pleasing victory for the team and officials by 8.5-3.5.

A Seniors Stableford at Avro had Chris Hynes in firm control with 41 from Ian Wilson and John Wetherell, both 38.

The Tom McKenzie Trophy at Avro was won by Peter Walker closely followed by Stephen Callaghan 36 and John Isherwood, Ian Hallworth and Les Fowler, all 35.

The President’s Prize to the Seniors at Hazel Grove was won by Gordon Jones with a great haul of 45 from Paul Harvey 41 and Andrew Johnston 38.

Marcus Powell won the second summer medal at Grove after a cpo on 66 with Raymond Stringer, one less than Stephen Volp with club legend Malcolm Hill one further back.

The second Summer Stableford at Grove was led in by Adam Ford with 39 from James McLellan 38 and Stuart Drummond 36.

Grove’s ladies played for the Australian Spoons and the dynamic duo of Wilma Milton and Louise Enderby won with 33, five more than Barbara Allen and Margaret Morley.

A medal for Houldswort­h ladies had Rebecca

Coleman on top with 75 from Jacqueline Beverley 74 and Elizabeth Fallows 78.

A midweek medal for Houldswort­h’s men was won by John Dorsi with 68 from David Raynor and Steve McCann, both 70 and Lee Patterson led in six players on 71.

The Seniors Centenary medal at Houldswort­h was won at a canter by Stephen Lewis with 69, five less than Jake McGurk and Joseph Whelan.

Good scoring in the third monthly medal at Houldswort­h was topped by Robert Seaton with 65 from David Hallworth and Graham Bardsley both 66 and Jake McGurk 68.

A Seniors Stableford at Marple had division one won by Richard Kershaw with 39 from Colin Fielden, Jonathan Vaisey, Gary Wilkinson and John Keelan, all 36.

In division two David Tonge led in with 45 from Stephen Rogers 41 and Andy Stobbie 38.

It was tight in division one for the Laird Cup at Marple with the bogey being won by Mark Walton after a cpo on +2 with Jeff Mellish and Robert Wilkinson.

Top of division two was Thomas Wroe with an unbelievab­le +19 from Andy Buckley +5 and club legend Mike Field and Malcolm Chapman, both +4.

A Stableford for Marple ladies had Janet Singleton first past the post with 40 from Sue Garnett 39 and Kay Gould-Martin 38.

The 9-hole winner was Wendy Hibbert after a cpo on 15 with Annette Clayburn.

Stockport ladies played their Coronation Foursomes qualifier and N Brown and V Garrett won a cpo on 34 from J Carter and L Meeks, three more than G Snook and P Murison and T Pickford and H Hanks.

The midweek Stableford for Stockport’s men had Ian Worsnop first past the post with 38 from Alex Gee 36 and Alex Brown led in five players on 35.

The third monthly medal for Stockport’s men had Steve Ridal top of division one with 69 from Samuel Woods and David Branch, both 70.

In division two Will Parker was the main man with 68 from Chas Deane 69 and David Williams 70.

The Wednesday medal at Reddish Vale had the divisions topped by Lee Addison 68, Tony Lyons 65 and Chris Marshall 65.

It was close in a Seniors Open at Vale with a cpo on 47 going in favour of S Dewsnip and T Blease from J Hilton and N Hallows, one more than P and N Tebay and P Bloomfield and J Whitehurst.

Vale’s men also played two rounds for the ‘major’ Jubilee Trophy and in round one Graeme Mearns won a cpo on 66 from Thomas Arden.one less than Wes Oakes.

In round two Graham Sutherland was red hot with 63 from David Hamilton 66.

The winner with a aggregate of 136 was David Pilling after a cpo with Jeff Stockton, one less than Captain Lee Costello.
