Family affair for Walkers

- BOWLS JAMIE BRAMLEY

IT was double delight for The Walker family on Sunday evening in The Frank Beeley Trophy at Houldsworth WMC.

In the top half of the draw Dad Dave Walker who bowls at The Grapes opened up with a 21-14 defeat of John Davies. The second game however presented a huge test against one of Yorkshire’s finest players in G.I Wilson.

The first few ends saw Walker open up a cosy lead and he never looked back, closing the game out well to win 21-18.

In a desperately tough qualifying section, Walker completed his route to the finals night with a narrow 21-19 victory over Ashley Daykin.

The results were much quicker and more convincing for son Ant Walker as he saw off Sam Hudak 21-10 and Stoke visitor Chris Cooper 21-8.

In another nightmare section which had seen an abundance of quality games, Walker found himself in trouble against George and Dragon team-mate Jack Hargreaves.

Showing real determination and grit, Walker dug in and came out the other side of his blip to eliminate Hargreaves 21-18.

That’s the second time Walker has seen off Hargreaves in a local sweep this season having also defeated him at Woodley.

Action at Houldsworth WMC continues for the next few Sundays now with play underway each evening from 6pm.

This coming Sunday both Cheshire and Greater Manchester full county are in action but both sides look like they will be eliminated.

Cheshire face Derbyshire over two legs with the home match being played at Crosstown Bowling Club in Knutsford.

The away leg is at one of the hardest greens in the country the notorious Stretton Number 1 green in Burton Upon Trent.

The group looks to have been signed sealed and delivered for Warwickshire and Worcestershire though after the last round of matches.

It’s a similar story for Greater Manchester who need a miracle to overhaul Yorkshire. The tricky Ashton Cricket Club is hosting the GM home fixture whilst the away lads will travel to Spen Victoria which is near Dewsbury.
