COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE

- BY IAN BROWN

WE took time this week to discuss how best the Supporters Cooperative could project themselves to the fanbase on matchdays.

When we had the use of the Cabin that was situated almost ideally at the point of maximum circulation of supporters, things were good.

The venue worked well for us, and we were able to raise funds for the Guardian Account and organise collections of clothing, food and cash in support of Stockport`s homeless charity `The Wellspring`.

But the change of club ownership brought with it pressure for us to vacate the site, which we did, and the cabin was removed from the site.

Thus, we still needed somewhere from where we could be on match days that would give us good access to supporters enabling them to buttonhole us and us to maintain meaningful contact.

Discussions with the Club resulted in 2 possible positions one of which we agreed on namely the patch of green land between the Cheadle End turnstiles and the car park now affectionately known as `The Grassy Knoll`.

It`s not perfect particularly as storage of any essentials has to be inside EP where the Club offered a share of a room which we gladly accepted.

The Knoll`s not perfect either, there`s some shade from the knoll tree but it can be a touch wet on the average Saturday or Tuesday evening.

We would like to address this aspect by fixing an awning or similar to the turnstile wall ( knoll side) and the Club has offered assistance in this respect with the design and procurement which is appreciated.

Who knows, ultimately, we may end up with a more permanent spot within the proposed Cheadle End Fan Zone, helping us engage with fans more easily.
