Almost six times drink limit

- Court Reporter

A drink/driver, caught with almost six times the legal alcohol limit in his system, had his car seized when he appeared from custody at Perth Sheriff Court this week.

Fifty-nine-year-old David Leuchars, of Sauchie Place, Crieff, also had an interim driving ban imposed.

He will discover how long he is off the road - and whether his car will be confiscated - when he returns for sentence on June 29.

Because of the high reading - and a previous conviction for a similar offence - Sheriff Fiona Tait said she wanted a Community Justice Social Work report before deciding the accused’s fate.

Leuchars admitted driving with 129 microgrammes of alcohol on his breath - the maximum allowed is 22 - on Drummond Terrace, Crieff, on May 29.

The accused was fined £500 and banned from driving at the Perth court in July, 2008, for driving while drunk.

Depute fiscal Lisa Marshall asked for the accused’s vehicle to be seized meantime pending its possible forfeiture next month.

Solicitor Steve Lafferty said he wasn’t opposing the seizure motion.

The background to the offence will be given at the end of the month.
