Revised travelling plan put in place by organisers

The countdown is well and truly on to the second staging of T in the Park at Strathallan Castle Estate near Auchterarder.

Tens of thousands of fans are set to descend on the local area when Scotland’s largest music festival takes place in Strathearn from July 8-10.

Promoters DF Concerts have announced a series of changes in relation to the event’s arena, campsite, management team and security arrangements in the wake of criticism from the likes of Perth and Kinross Council, as well as other agencies, 12 months ago.

In addition, locals have been urged to pay particular attention to a revamped transport plan developed by T in the Park’s new executive producer, Melvin Benn, and transport manager, Ian Martin.

The wide- ranging blueprint includes separate roads for buses and cars accessing the site, a bus station in a new location, one dedicated pick-up and drop-off point and new car parks.

Each transport hub will have dedicated management teams and facilities.

Organisers are also reiterating that there are no safe walking routes to or from the festival.

Bus firm Citylink is providing a shuttle bus service from Auchterarder, Aberuthven, Gleneagles Station, Crieff, Muthill, Braco, Greenloaning and Blackford. Tickets can be booked and purchased in advance from www.citylink.co.uk.

Mr Martin, a former police inspector with experience of presiding over the region’s roads network, said: “We’ve completely overhauled the transport plans with a focus on minimising disruption for the local community.

“We’ve separated access and roads for buses and cars and have the new pick- up and drop- off points, which will create a much better flow of traffic.

“We are confident in the setup for 2016, but T in the Park is Scotland’s biggest festival and heavier volumes of traffic are to be expected, particularly on the Monday morning. We ask everyone to plan ahead accordingly.”

Although not advised, anyone travelling by car is urged to check www.trafficscotland.co.uk/titp in advance for all traffic information leading to the event. Drivers are also asked not to use Sat Nav and, instead, follow event signage.

Road restrictions will be in place from 1am on July 7 until 4pm on July 11. Stewards will be located at checkpoints to allow access to those with the appropriate vehicle passes.

Speed restrictions will also be enforced at various points in the vicinity of the site before, during and after the festival.
