Give a helping hand for Comrie Fortnight
Volunteers and donations required for showpiece
Organisers of the Comrie Fortnight are busy finalising this year’s funpacked programme.
As usual there will be lots to entertain the whole family, with a few new surprise additions to the regular activities on the agenda.
Long-time committee member Nancy McCrae is putting out her annual appeal for donations, raffle prizes and sponsors for the much-anticipated community crowd-pleaser.
She told the Herald: “Examples of where our main costs lie include putting on buses to take people to events and for days out, and for the children’s activities – which we subsidise as much as possible to give as much fun during the Fortnight at a low cost to parents. Providing inflatables, show rides, and other activities all add to the costs of staging our annual extravaganza and every little helps.”
Nancy said that raffle prizes and sponsorship of any sort will be gratefully received.
She continued: “We rely on the generous nature of local residents, businesses and other supporters - particularly with prices rising every year. And as we are a non-profit organisation every donation, large or small, goes a long way in helping us maintain the wide variety of events to suit all that we put on during the Fortnight.
“New sponsors are always welcome and sponsorship can come in many forms.”
Extra volunteers for events are also more than welcome, particularly to help with setting up and dismantling events, but also by providing refreshments, and help with stewarding.
Nancy added: “Volunteers always help make the committee’s life a lot easier.
“This year we are specifically looking for help with making sandwiches and home baking for the car treasure hunt and the bingo tea.
“Help with setting up for events and moving tables and chairs between venues is also much appreciated, as are stewards for the pram derby and on float parade day.”
This year’s Comrie Fortnight runs from July 23 to August 6.
