New event for sporty Strath youngsters

Crieff Community Campus to host‘aquathlon’

Plans have been unveiled for a new youth sports event in Strathearn.

The Strathearn Youth and Junior Aquathlon will take place at Strathearn Community Campus in Crieff on September 4.

Run by local recreation provider Live Active Leisure, participan­ts will be split into five different age categories – eight, nine- 10, 11- 12, 13- 14 and 15-16 years.

The youngest athletes will swim 40 metres and run 60 metres, while the eldest will complete 320 metres in the water and 3000 metres on land.

Registrati­on will be from 10.45am12:30pm in one of the Pittenzie Road venue’s courts.

Organisers have said that anyone wishing to take part must attend a pre-event briefing at 12.30pm in the Tryst.

Athletes will be placed in heats according to their age group and estimated swim times, with the younger heats going off first.

After the swim, the participan­ts will run out of the campus through a fire exit from poolside and into the car park to the transition.

Routes for the run are to be advised and will be available on the race web site at www.liveactive.co.uk shortly.

Following the event, a presentati­on will take place in the campus Tryst.

Medals will be available for the top three positions in each age category.

The entry fee is £ 14 for BTF/ TS members and £17 for non-members.

The fee includes a race momento.
