Saturday last week saw the official opening of the new artificial pitch at Morrison’s Academy’s Dallerie playing fields.
As well as a state- of- the- art floodlit surface, the development includes new parking for spectators’ cars and players’ buses opposite Taylor Park.
The opening ceremony was watched by many parents, staff, pupils, governors, and friends of the school.
Members of the Scottish women’s hockey team joined school’s current hockey players to see Rebecca Flett, this year’s hockey captain at the Ferntower Road school, cut the ribbon to open the pitch.
The visiting international players then ran a series of hockey skills clinics with the Morrison’s girls, all of whom were eager to impress – in addition to getting their sticks signed and ‘selfies’ taken with their more experienced counterparts.
After the clinics it was down to the serious business of the day as Morrison’s Academy’s pipers led the respective first XI sides from Queen Victoria School in Dunblane and Morrison’s on to the new pitch for the inaugural hockey match.
A close game saw the home side edge out the visitors 1-0.
Throughout the morning, members of the Morrison’s Academy Parents’ Association ( MAPA) provided bacon rolls, home baking and refreshments in the marquee.
The official opening of the pitch was followed by the annual MAPA barbecue, with accompanying games and bouncy castles.
It was attended by parents and pupils from across the Morrison’s spectrum, from the nursery to the senior school.
