Prize displays at Strath show
Green-fingered locals have been praised for their efforts at this year’s Strathearn Horticultural Society annual show.
Colourful and fragrant floral displays were among the exhibits on show in Crieff ’s St Andrew’s Halls on Saturday.
Visitors enjoyed browsing the stands of flowers, fruit and vegetables, jams, home baking and crafts.
And there was a good show of entries in the children’s section, which included some imaginative contributions.
Well-known local Carol McGregor was invited to formally open the show and present the prizes.
Notable wins came from Drummond Castle’s Edith Barnes, who scooped an amazing haul of five accolades, and 12-year-old Arwen Kahn, who bagged herself three cups and a shield – following on from a hat-trick of awards last year.
Afterwards, Kathryn Buchanan, president of Strathearn Horticultural Society, told the Herald: “The show went very well this year. It’s been very good. There wasn’t the same number of people coming in to the hall to view the exhibits, but the standard of entries across the categories was excellent.”
Kathryn, who reserved special praise for the highquality entries in the children’s section, added: “I’d like to thank everyone who supports the show - the exhibitors, the committee and other helpers for setting it up and all those who attended.”
