Comrie is hit by new wave of vandalism

Plea as more damage done

- Rachel Blackburn

Comrie residents have been sickened again this week with further vandalism blighting the picturesque village.

This time sandbags, used to weight down signs, have been thrown down by the river and onto the main road, while barriers used for recent road works have also been flung around.

The incidents are just the latest incidents of “mindless vandalism” being wreaked in recent months, including damage to the vegetable gardens, sandpit and minor fire-raising incidents at the primary school.

A number of floral displays designed by Comrie in Colour have also been vandalised, with plants and flowers ripped out and thrown around.

Sandra McRitchie, chair of Comrie Community Council, urged villagers to report any such incidents to the police immediately.

She said: “The disrespect being shown in the village is just ridiculous and I can’t understand why people are doing this kind of thing.

“Please contact the police if you see anything and if anyone knows who the culprits are please hand over their names or send me a message and I will be happy to do so.”

Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses after the children’s sandpit was damaged at Comrie Primary School between August 19 and 22.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “When the janitor arrived on the Monday morning he discovered that the wooden sandpit in the playground had been damaged and items of equipment overturned.

“Officers are investigating the incident and we’d appeal for anyone with information to get in touch with Police Scotland by calling 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
