FIGHT AGAINST CANCER Top total after charity quiz night

- Rachel Blackburn

A recent quiz night organised by the Auchterarder Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Group raised more than £1000 for the vital charity.

The event, at the Gleneagles Hotel, led to a £1184 donation to the organisation which provides help and support for people affected by cancer.

Christine Steele, vice- chair of the group, thanked all those who came along and those who helped organise the quiz night.

She said: “It was a great evening and we raised a fantastic amount for Macmillan.

“I’d like to thank the committee and, in particular, committee member Jacqueline McLaren who pulled the event together.

“Thanks to the Gleneagles Hotel who provided the supper and a huge thank you to Gordon Crawford for coming along to support the group by being quiz master, for putting the quiz together and helping make the event such a success.

“All donations received make a real difference.”

Money raised for Macmillan is spent to support cancer victims and their families, with £10 able to help stock an information and support centre – while £25 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour.

A donation of £50 helps pay for a team of Macmillan professionals so no one is left to face cancer alone.

In Scotland, there are 223 Macmillan professionals including counsellors, dietitians and psychologists who are trained to provide support to people living with cancer.

The next fundraising event organised by the Auchterarder group will be the annual Christmas concert.

It takes place at Gleneagles Hotel on Tuesday, December 6.
