Runner-up place for Harrier Wendy

Good turnout of local runners for 10k

Seven Strathearn Harriers made the trip to Pitlochry for Sunday’s Live Active 10k, the 10th race in the club’s championship series.

The race follows attractive roads and trails, with a start on Pitlochry High Street outside Fisher’s Hotel, and a finish at the Festival Theatre.

Taking place in warm conditions for September, the race was won by Myles Bax, of Perth Road Runners, in a time of 34.06.

The first Harrier home was Aaron Dawson, in 17th position with a time of 39.09. His performance means he moves up into fourth position in the Harriers’ men’s championship.

Next in was Wendy Taylor, who ran a very steady race to finish as the second woman overall – and the first in the FV40 category – in a time of 43.05. The performance also netted her some valuable club championship points, consolidating her position at the head of the pack.

Tony Wayte was next in, with a time of 43.22, in 55th position and seventh in the MV50 section.

Andy Gallagher was hot on his heels, finishing in 43.31 – which was good enough for 57th position overall and eighth in the same section as Tony.

Mark Dillon – who continued his formidable 100% attendance record in this year’s club championship – crossed the line in 45.59, 86th overall and 15th in MV50.

Iain Thomson, 87th position overall and fourth, was not far behind.

Following Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie’s efforts in the Comrie Hills relay last week, SNP Deputy First Minister John Swinney was among the field and recorded a respectable 57.28.

In a race of a completely different nature, the Glen Coe Skyline is a race that would given most people nightmares.

Starting in Kinlochleven, the race route is remorselessly hard – covering 55km and 4746m of ascent over demanding terrain, including rock scrambling up the famous Curved Ridge on Buachaille Etive Mor and difficult going along the Aonach Eagach ridge on the north side of the glen.

Harrier Will Manners is one of the select few to even contemplate taking on such an arduous task

Will ran the race last year and finished in 22nd position and third MV45.

This year, Will improved on his time from last year despite the race being six kilometres longer.

He finished in 31st position – first MV45 – in a time of 9.00.15.

The race was won by Jonathon Albon in 6.33.52.

The next club championship races are the Meall nan Tarmachan hill race and the Neil McCover half marathon in October.

The East District cross-country league races start in mid-October.
