Tapestry will be on display
As the year transitions into colder days, darker evenings, and thicker jackets, thoughts of the 2016 Crieff Arts Festival recede into memories.
Lots of happy ones – children playing draughts and chess in James Square, the open mic poetry event, ‘Crieff at the Movies’ and the lecture on the life of artist Paul Gauguin.
As chairman of Crieff Arts Festival, and on behalf of its glamorous leader June McEwan, I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the Festival’s success – from those who volunteered to help at events to the sponsors without whom we might not have a festival.
A new initiative, the Crieff Arts Project, will concentrate on one-off arts events throughout the year. Its first presentation will be a repeat showing of the popular “Crieff at the Movies” evening. Clips from home movies combine with those of films which used the Crieff area as locations in a unique saunter down memory lane. The show will be held at Strathearn Artspace in the new year. Watch out for publicity nearer the time.
Additionally, we have successfully negotiated for the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry to be displayed in Crieff next summer. The exhibition is timed to coincide with and to be part of Crieff Remembers, commemorating Strathearn’s involvement with the Great War 100 years ago.
Bringing this important work to Crieff is a major coup, and we are sure that the people of Crieff will embrace this wonderful opportunity. Nigel Gatherer by email
