Trekking trio aiming high

- Iain Howie

An adventurous trio of ladies are set for the trek of a lifetime to raise cash for charity.

Estelle Nicol and Kim Somerville of Auchterarder and Joy Mitchell from Perth have been training for weeks to ensure they are fit for the challenge which expects them to complete 20km a day, much of it at high altitude.

The group is raising cash for Marie Curie, The Teenage Cancer Trust and Maggies Centres and will be setting off early next month on the fundraising excursion.

The expedition combines awesome Himalayan trekking with a visit to India’s exiled Tibetan community.

The trek begins and ends at the heart of the world’s highest mountain range in Dharamsala, where the Dalai Lama and centre of the Tibetan community are located.

On the way the ladies will face arduous terrain, trekking through remote areas where there are no other tourists or trekkers and accommodation is basic.

Estelle said: “We are so excited to be heading to the Himalayas and are hopeful that our months of training will stand us in good stead so we can enjoy the experience”.

Joy’s husband Andy said: “The girls have been inspirational in their commitment, both to their training regime and also ensuring their chosen charities get maximum benefit. We are very proud of them”

Anyone who wnats to support their fundraising efforts can contact Estelle on 07879 481014.
