Cash will pay for wi-fi link

- Rachel Blackburn

Members of Comrie Scottish Women’s Institute are delighted with a cash boost of nearly £500 to install wi-fi in their hall.

The organisation has received a Voluntary Action Fund community grant of £468 to buy a broadband package and connect wi-fi in the SWI Rural Hall.

The money will pay for a year’s broadband running costs and members will benefit from a set of classes teaching them how to get around the internet on a laptop, iPad, Kindle and smartphone.

Comrie SWI president Joyce Carnegie told the Herald: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive this grant, which will allow us to bring the hall up to 21st Century standards with all users benefiting from being able to use wi-fi there.

“We’re very grateful to the VAF for awarding us this grant.”

Members of the hall committee are fundraising for the £ 230,000 needed to improve access and energy efficiency in the Nurses Lane venue.

Mrs Carnegie said: “We have been fundraising towards this cause and appreciate the support and donations we have received so far.

“We’ve also got some grant applications in and should find out if we’ve been successful with those by the end of the year.”

They are holding a buffet supper dance in the hall on Saturday, November 19, which will feature the Dunkeld and District Strathspey and Reel Society.

The event is BYOB and there will also be a raffle.

Tickets cost £ 10 and are available in Comrie Post Office or from any hall committee member.

Anyone who wants to donate to the appeal can contact Mrs Carnegie on 01764 670635.
