County takeover of Crieff Library agreed

Crieff Burgh Council’s latest meeting received reports on a number of items illustrati­ng what was of concern in civic affairs of the day.

“Crieff’s library service is to be taken over by Perth County Council on 16th May, 1967. The library is to be enlarged and the service improved.

“As the present maximum is for 6,500 books and the required number of books for the size of population is 8,500 it is proposed the storeroom be used as a part of the library.

“A full-time chartered librarian and a part-time assistant will be employed.

“The Finance Committee generally agreed this was a progressiv­e step, except for Baillie Mrs Torbet, and agreed to the County’s suggestion.

“Provost Wishart, for the Magistrate’s Committee, announced that the BBC Radio programme ‘Down Your Way’ was coming to Crieff on Tuesday, 28th March, ‘ These people record conversati­ons with local inhabitant­s, ascertain their musical preference­s and at a later date broadcast a programme’ he explained.

“Following complaints about horses using footpaths and pavements in the town, the Health Committee urged all owners not to allow their horses on footpaths in the town.

“The floral emblem in MacRosty Park in 1968 is to be the Blesma Coat of Arms. Next year it will be the SWRI crest.

“The Hydro Board was given permission to lay undergroun­d high voltage and low voltage cables to supply the new housing estate at Hollybush.”
