Busy festive period for Strathearn groups

Crieff Post Office had completed its plans for the “Christmas Rush”.

The head postmaster, Mr A Mackinnon, said that he expected Christmas business at Crieff to be on a par with last year, when 216,000 letters and cards were posted.

“The Post Office will once again take over temporary premises for use as an annex to the head office.”

In Comrie, the youth club was being rechristened the Flambeaux Club and was to be officially opened by the Rt Hon The Earl of Ancaster, thus bringing an idea expressed two years earlier to fruition.

In October 1964 a public meeting had been called to discuss whether there were sufficient grounds to start a youth club in the empty Comrie Parish Church (White Kirk).

“There followed a tremendous amount of work by the committee, chaired by Mrs Jauncey and the young folk of the village who rallied round to assist.”

It had been hoped to have the centre ready by July of 1966 but work had taken longer than expected.

The youngsters had been so busy helping to get their new premises ready that they had not had time for a set programme of activities.

However, monthly film shows and dances were still being enjoyed and a wide range of activities was planned once they were settled in the White Kirk.
