Wedding bells for Christina

Midnight proposal in James Sq

- Lynn Duke

Crieff’s Christina Ellis had a New Year to remember when her boyfriend popped the question as the bells rang to signal the start of 2017.

Rimvydas Zdanavicius (30) got down on one knee in front of hundreds of revellers in James Square at Crieff’s Hogmanay bash to ask Christina (24) to marry him.

And the crowd cheered and clapped when she didn’t hesitate to say yes.

Afterwards, Christina told the Herald she was shocked but delighted at the proposal.

The former Crieff High School pupil said: “It was wonderful. We’ve been together for seven months but I’ve known him for over five years.

“He had it planned for months and kept saying to me ‘it’s almost the bells’ but I didn’t know what he was up to. When he went over to the band I just thought he was asking for a request but he was really asking for the microphone.”

The couple, who live in Crieff, met when they both worked at Crieff Hydro. Christina is in the equestrian industry and her new fiancé works in Delivinos in King Street.

Rimvydas is from Lithuania and Christina is looking forward to a holiday there in May when she will meet her prospective in-laws for the first time.

She added: “Everyone is over the moon for us and we are very happy.”
