All set for fifth Festival of Science
The main thrust of the fifth annual Strathearn Festival of Science gets into full swing next week.
Some of the best science communicators in the country will offer a wide range of experiences to enhance the curriculum offered to school pupils throughout the event – which also caters for those outwith the area’s schools.
Muthill Primary School kicked off the schools’programme on January 31 when organiser Steuart Cuthbert spent the day with them, discussing how to survive in space.
The main programme runs from February 20-24, with highlights including Perth College UHI running a‘Science in the Workplace’event for S3 pupils and Glasgow Science Centre running‘Careering into Science’workshops for S1 and S2 pupils.
The‘science is all around us’ theme is carried on throughout the festival with a return of the ‘Molecule Hunt’and‘Science Café’running in Crieff.
These activities are part of the community programme, which started on January 30 with a touring exhibition of photographs from the 2016 Royal Society of Biology Photographer of the Year competition. Foundation Scotland, and Crieff Succeeds BID.
It is supported by a wide selection of individuals, companies, organisations and universities, all collaborating to give the wide range of experiences.
Steuart said:“We have created a programme which will appeal to every man, woman and child - from toddlers and secondary pupils on the cusp of making career choices, to families and adults.
“Not only will our activities entertain and intrigue visitors, but also highlight that science is everywhere, and is there to be explored and enjoyed.”
