Bye bye to big waste bins

-

Strath households received their new bins this week.

A new household waste and recycling service is being introduced throughout Perth and Kinross in eight phases, with the sixth set of households receiving their new ‘slimline’bins this month.

From the start of the new service households will be able to recycle food and drinks cartons, clean metal jar lids and bottle tops in the blue-lidded bin.

And the current 240 litre green-lidded bins are being replaced by new 140 litre ones to use for non-recyclable general waste.

All bins will continue to be emptied fortnightly, and collection days will stay the same.

Brown-lidded bins should be used for all cooked and uncooked food waste and garden refuse, and free kitchen caddies to collect food waste can be obtained from local council offices and libraries.

Extra blue-lidded and brownlidded recycling bins – up to a maximum of two of each per household – are available for households that produce a large amount of recyclable material.

Anyone who thinks they may be entitled toa second 140 litre bin for non-recyclable waste can call 01738 476476 or email recycle@pkc.gov. uk.

Perth and Kinross Council is looking to install a number of new local glass recycling points.

Suggested locations can be made via the above contact details.
