And the winner is... Piper Dan

- Lynn Duke

A piper from Crieff has taken one of the top spots at the official Scottish Wedding Awards.

The accolade for Wedding Entertainment of the Year went to Piper Dan, aka Daniel Sweeney.

Daniel was presented with his gong at a glittering ceremony, where over 600 guests gathered at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza hotel in a celebration of the Scottish wedding industry.

The black tie event was hosted by award winning radio presenter Gina McKie.

She welcomed on stage talented individuals and businesses who ensure an amazing wedding day for their clients.

Daniel gave up his day job with the Royal Mail to pursue his passion for piping, setting up as Piper Dan this year so he was over the moon that his flourishing business was nominated and then crowned overall winner for his category.

He told the Herald:“It was a complete shock to be announced the winner. I really never expected this at all. I went along mainly to make new contacts in the wedding industry, with a wee bit of hope. But to come away as the winner was beyond my wildest dreams. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my partner, Jane Anderson, and all the years practising and making a noise in my bedroom has finally paid off. My mum, Frances, brother Paul and sister Theresa came along to support me at the awards, which made it all the more special.”

The awards are split into local regions to recognise businesses from across Scotland for their hard work with overall winners in each section.

Irfan Younis, CEO of organisers Creative Oceanic, said:“We are honoured and delighted to have such great finalists and winners representing the Scottish wedding industry and enhancing its reputation nationally and internationally.

“This was the fifth annual Scottish Wedding Awards. They are a true reflection of the talent in Scotland and we want to make sure that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.

“We were very happy to welcome the guests and celebrate with them. Congratulations to all finalists and winners.”

In addition, the awards supported the Well Foundation and raised over £1000 for the charity.
