Spring in the air during evening at Crieff church
Crieff Choral Group will mark the beginning of British Summer Time with a performance celebrating the work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at a concert on March 26.
To be held at Crieff Parish Church from 7.30pm, ‘In Praise of Mozart’ will feature soloists who have all sung with leading opera companies.
These include Colleen Nicoll (soprano), Laura Margaret Smith (mezzo-soprano), Ted Black (tenor) and Jonathan Sedgwick (bass).
The choir and soloists will be accompanied by the City of Perth Sinfonia.
The concert will feature pieces including the popular ‘Ave Verum Corpus’, a Eucharistic hymn dating from the 14th Century and attributed to Pope Innocent VI, and the Coronation Mass in C Major – a Missa brevis, written in 1779 when Mozart was court organist and composer at Salzburg Cathedral.
This piece became the preferred music for royal and imperial coronations at the Imperial court in Vienna.
Crieff Choral Group was founded in 1972 has since increased in size, ambition and performance and now consists of around 60 enthusiastic singers of all ages who enjoy making music together.
The group received a £2000 in Awards for All funding and have been supported by the Crieff Succeeds Business Improvement District (BID).
