Remake, the creative recyc l e, re - use and education charity based in Crieff, has been awarded £ 13,000 to run a second year of a free environmental project.

‘Remake Challenge Champions’ is a 10- week educational programme for children and young adults in Strathearn and western Perthshire.

The funding, secured from a combination of the Robertson Trust and the Gannochy Trust, will allow participants to share creative projects using domestic waste and everyday objects in new ways.

Remake also received a £5000 grant from the Robertson Trust last year towards its new Remake van, which is now in operation, and enables delivery of creative sessions and pickup of donations.

Remake’s development manager Fiona Gilbert said: “We’re all delighted with the news which allows Remake to deliver more free creative art and play sessions within the local area.”

Other donors include Scottish and Southern Energy, Perth and Kinross Council, JTH Charitable Trust, WM Mann Foundation, Hugh Fraser Foundation and some generous individuals.

Fiona added: “The Remake board of trustees are delighted by the success of year one in which Remake delivered free creative sessions for 18 community groups, charities, groups and organisations, including Perth Autism Support, St Dominic’s RC Primary School, Crieff High School, Kids Week in Crieff, Muthill Gala and Braco Ardoch Youth, with 1483 total beneficiaries - 67% under 12 and 80% under 18 years of age.”

Remake runs a number of projects including a volunteer programme, scrap-store and paid work experience placements for young adults, and works with more than 40 volunteers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, promoting inter- generational community building and skills sharing.
