Strath Arts Society is sadly wound up

-

Dear Editor After more than 40 years Strathearn Arts Society was, with some reluctance, recently wound up.

There were two main reasons for this step.

It became increasingly difficult to attract new members – far less finding members able or willing to take office. As a result, there was a lack of younger people in the society.

Also, the annual summer exhibition – which was always a focal point for members – saw a gradual reduction in attendances and a consequent reduction in sales.

Sadly, sales at last summer’s exhibition were practically nonexistent even although the work had not dropped in quality. Possibly uncertainty over the broader financial outlook may have contributed.

The committee called a meeting of the younger and active members to seek their views on the society’s future. As one, they were in favour of winding up and this was acted upon.

At the final meeting, trustees were elected to obtain suggestions for dispersal of the remaining funds and to select suitable recipients.

This has now been dealt with and the donations are: Strathearn Artspace (£200); Crieff Arts Festival (£100); Remake, Crieff (£100); Strathearn Art for Experience £50. Total: £450. Wilson Taylor Former president Strathearn Arts Society

Dear Editor Please may I through your letters page thank those who came to the Friends of Aytoun Hall coffee morning in Auchterarder last Saturday, especially the volunteers who helped to run the event.

The hall was full and £580 was raised, which will all be ploughed back into the Aytoun Hall by replacing some of the community-owned inventory.

At the event we launched a quiz that will run until May 22. It costs £1 per sheet and may be purchased in the High Street from Chocolate Gallery, D & R Johnston shoe shop and other outlets.

There is a cash prize for the winner. David Homewood Convener Friends of Aytoun Hall
