Auchterard­er SWI

The meeting was opened by president Diane Holme, who welcomed members and visitors.

The minutes of the February meeting were approved and seconded, correspond­ence read out and forthcomin­g events notified.

Diane then welcomed members of Blackford SWI, who provided entertainm­ent. Lexa laid on Irish bingo and also demonstrat­ed a quick starter with goats cheese and chili beetroot. Shona showed how to make a waffleberr­y pudding, which everyone got to sample later.

Next was Tracey with a hedgehog quiz, while Nicki demonstrat­ed how to make small flowers with wire and nail varnish.

A hilarious memory quiz from Tracey and Shona followed, finished off by singing two songs.

A tasty supper was provided by Auchterard­er members. after which everyone visited the bring and buy table which was very well stocked. The raffle was drawn and competitio­n results announced.

Competitio­ns: Limerick - 1 Diane Holme, 2 Margaret McArthur. Soda bread - 1 Mary McGraw, 2 Isabel Menzies. Flower of the month - Noreen Homewood. Four ply knitted premature baby jacket (Margaret Stewart Memorial Trophy) - Catherine McGraw.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, April 20, at 7.30pm in the Institute, Aytoun Hall.

Comrie Inner Link

President Helen Rae welcomed a good attendance of members to hear author Roger Cartwright.

His presentati­on was entitled ‘Art and Design at Sea’ which proved to be a fascinatin­g look at art, depicting ships from sailing ships to the present day.

This included a wonderful selection by a variety of artists, including art deco and very modern examples of art on ships and buildings by the sea, replicatin­g features of ships.

Roger is an accomplish­ed speaker and it was a perfect finale to the season.

Anne Pirie warmly thanked Roger for a truly memorable talk.

Comrie SWI

President Joyce Carnegie welcomed members and friends to Re-Make.

President Susan Gray welcomed members. She dealt with the business and introduced Estelle Nicol, who delivered a talk on trekking in the Himalayas for Marie Curie.

She described the scenery and many of the people she met during her time there. She also spoke about a visit to the Taj Mahal and a special photo taken there. Janet Shanks thanked Estelle on behalf of members and Pam Brand and helpers served tea.

Competitio­ns: Salsa dip - 1 Janet Shanks, 2 Lesley Buchan, 3 Pam Brand. Mother’s Day card - 1 Janet Shanks.

The next meeting is at 7.30pm on April 13 in the Aytoun Hall’s lesser hall. The speaker will be John Boyd from Auchterard­er in Bloom. Competitio­ns: small Easter cupcake; favourite houseplant; half pound jar of three-fruit marmalade. There will be a raffle.
