Trouble spots noted in Crieff street audit
Aim to make town centre safer and more comfortable
Crieff residents and representatives from various agencies, including Transport Scotland, took to the Strath capital’s town centre recently for a street audit.
Living Streets Scotland has been working with the road safety team at Perth and Kinross Council and with members of the Centre for Inclusive Living Perth and Kinross to understand how city and town centre streets can be more accessible, safe and comfortable for pedestrians, particularly those with mobility and sensory disabilities.
The group toured the town noting blackspots and taking photographs of problem areas.
Penny Morriss, Communities Coordinator, Living Streets Scotland, told the Herald: “We are currently working with community members in Crieff and Blairgowrie to understand how people feel about walking in their town centres, with the aim of identifying the small changes to the walking environment that can have an impact.
“We’ve under taken a community street audit in Crieff already, walking a route in the town centre with local residents and stakeholders that plan for, manage and maintain local streets, and we’ve had great feedback from residents and local groups including Crieff Community Council and Crieff Community Trust who’ve helped identify what works and what doesn’t for people walking.”
The exercise will inform forward planning in Crieff with regards to street management and maintenance.
Penny added: “It’s hoped this will start a conversation amongst street users, local businesses and other stakeholders, and those that manage local streets on the actions that can be taken to improve accessibility, and encourage people of all ages and abilities to walk more and make the most of their town centres.
“We’re keen to hear comments from people living in Crieff, especially those that find walking in the town centre more challenging – older folk, people walking with young children, and those with a disability.”
