Passing the buck on Hunter Street misery Thanks for good wishes... it’s time for a long lie in

-

Thank you again for the paper’s interest in the plight of Hunter Street residents in Auchterarder.

I only wish the police and the council showed ANY interest in this problem.

The council makes excuses, and passes the buck from councillor to department and back again.

The police do nothing and the developers do as they please with total disregard for local residents.

There is a planning regulation that any new development can not affect the amenity of existing residents.

I feel, and am not alone, that lorries causing gridlock on the street, children going to school being forced onto the road to get passed parked lorries, and sheltering in other people’s gateways due to the narrowness of the pavement, while lorries drive down the street, is a loss of amenity.

This is due to, the council not doing its job correctly at the planning stage and, rather than admit it, the local residents must suffer for their incompetence. The council’s rush to get as many houses into the area around Perth seems to blind them to the facts.

They are building a road to access the new development at Bertha Park to ease traffic flow, solving congestion at Inveralmond and Broxden roundabouts.

The junctions to villages south of Perth on the A9 need graded junctions. These would be better projects for road construction and money better spent.

If the area needed more houses, the proposed 800 at Auchterarder would be selling quicker and Oudenarde at Bridge of Earn would be getting developed.

The folly doesn’t stop with construction.

Millions proposed to be spent lighting up Perth at night to bring in more people to the shops - lights work at night and shops are open in the daytime. Could someone explain how that will work?

Millions spent on a new surface for Mill Street- but they can’t fill potholes anywhere else.

Millions on a theatre refurbishment - but reducing evening bus services, making it difficult for people to get home from social or cultural activities.

Millions on an office refurbishment to make the council’s working environment nicer- it just seems they aren’t working for us.

Do you think we’re getting value for money from the council management and councillors?
