Breastfeeding group gathers momentum
Support is available
Crieff Breastfeeding Group is celebrating its first anniversary.
The friendly, informal group, which provides a comfortable environment for breastfeeding mums, and pregnant women considering breastfeeding, was set up by mum of two Angela Baker.
And it has been so popular that there are now three separate sessions running in the Strath.
Angela explained that the group had been set up to support women on their breastfeeding journey.
She told the Herald: “We started off with just the Crieff area but anyone is welcome to join us.
“I had issues myself with breastfeeding both my babies
“With the first it was because I didn’t have any mums’ support in Crieff and none of my family had breast fed.
“We soon went to formula but I would have preferred not to.
“For my second child I started going to Perth Royal Infirmary, which had a support network, and was encouraged by the health visitor to set up a group here.
“I used Facebook to find others that wanted to volunteer to do the NHS training, and myself, Jan Penny, Susan Caudrey, Alicia Bowers and Zoe Collins all underwent training – and that’s how we arrived at this group.”
Angela added: “It became so busy that we now have three groups.
“Volunteers came forward and we now have a group in Auchterarder as well.
“Just by coming to the group as a mum you are building a support network.
“Some of our mums come for a week, some week after week.
“You can choose to be part of the group or we can offer one to one informal chats.
“And hopefully we can answer any questions and give advice on any aspect of having a baby.”
