Working hub hope for centre of Crieff

Empty building could become office HQ

- Lynn Duke

An empty building in the centre of Crieff will be brought back into use if a local community group’s idea captures the imagination.

Crieff Community Trust (CCT) has said the former Perth College UHI Learning Centre site on Lodge Street would lend itself well to becoming what’s known as a ‘co-working space’.

Members have been pushing for a shared office space facility in the Strath capital after discovering there was a demand from those who normally work from home or on the go.

CCT chair Ailsa Campbell explained: “Last year CCT was looking at the Old Refectory as it seemed the only option at the time. However, since then, Perth College’s Learning Centre has left the Lodge Street Annex below Strathearn Artspace. This venue lends itself very well to a co- working space.

“CCT has expressed its interest in the premises to Strathearn Artspace and hopes to create a co-working space in it this year.”

A meeting on the subject will take place at Strathearn Artspace on Comrie Street on April 24.

There will be two sessions, one at 10am and one at 6pm, to involve as many people as possible and to discuss the way forward for co-working in Crieff.

Mrs Campbell continued: “We want to bring everyone up to speed on the background of a coworking space and what we see happening going forward and how people can help shape it into they space they want it to be , it’s got to be created by the users for the users, with the assistance of the Trust and George Boyle, founder of the Fumbally Exchange in Dublin, a thriving coworking space born out of the economic crisis in Dublin in 2008 when so many people

lost their jobs. The Fumbally Exchange is the model of how co-working should be.

“We are at a really exciting stage. Everything seems to be coming together and we now want people to come on board and make it happen with us.”
