Word puzzle

- Rachel Clark

A Strathearn distillery has forged an unlikely partnership on the other side of the world.

The story, dubbed ‘Scotch on the rock’, has resulted in a link-up between Crieff’s Glenturret Distillery and Naked Retreat resort in China.

The mystery of how a rock inscribed with the word ‘Glenturret’ ended up in the mountain region of Moganshan has yet to be solved, with members of the public and academics alike trying to piece together the puzzle and uncover the mystery since it was uncovered in early 2016.

Following the discovery there has been constant communication between Glenturret and Grant Horsfield and Delphine Yip, who visited the Crieff distillery this month.

Glenturret manager Stuart Cassels said: “We’ve been keeping in touch with Grant and Delphine and we all remain intrigued by the mystery.

“When Grant told me he and Delphine were visitng Scotland we knew we had to make this meeting happen.”

Mr Horsfield first visited Glenturret 20 years ago, where he bought two bottles of Glenturret whisky, which are still on display at the resort.

He said: “Our meeting with Stuart was excellent, really informative, and what a treat to see Scotland’s odlest working whisky distillery.

“As I told Stuart, the Glenturret in China story is too extraordinary to ignore. We’re looking forward to continuing this special partnership and to see what the future holds.”
