MAIRI MACDONALD
SNP
Originally from Crieff, I moved to Muthill 10 years ago, where I work as a freelance editor specialising in digital textbooks and interactive teaching materials.
I am a former pupil of Crieff High and studied at Aberdeen and Strathclyde Universities. After graduating, I spent several years teaching in Lithuania and Poland before getting my first publishing job – writing definitions for a dictionary.
Lately, I was part of a team working on curriculum development in Kazakhstan
Freelancing demands the ability to work with different clients and an aptitude for finding creative solutions to problems, skills which, I feel, are highly relevant to the role of councillor.
I am currently a member of Muthill Primary Parent Council. Before that, I was on the parent committee of the local pre-school where I used my publishing and digital knowledge to help raise the profile of the nursery and publicise fundraising.
Throughout Perthshire, groups, trusts and committees are planning communityled projects. I feel my family benefit from living in an area where such community involvement is in evidence every day. Whether it’s a new village hall, an improved play park or establishing a path network, I am keen to ensure that local groups and residents continue to get the most out of their Council.
