Up for the 2017 cup
The 2017 Soroptimists Cup has been awarded to Crieff High School pupil Freya Colwell.
The fourth year student was presented with the accolade at a recent meeting in Strathearn Community Campus.
Runners up Kirsty Coldwell and Georgia Ashworth were also recognised.
Iris King is the founder of the Soroptimist Cup for Personal Achievement.
Explaining why she set up the initiative, Mrs King said: “Soroptimist International is a vibrant, dynamic organisation for woman today.
“We are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong and peaceful communities worldwide.
“When I became president of Sorptimist International of Crieff for the first time in 1998, I decided I would like a project that would link the community, apply only to girls and raise awareness in the aims of Soroptimism.”
Iris approached Crieff High with the idea and it was decided that the scheme would apply to girls in fourth year, as by this stage, they have made choices that could influence their way of life in the future.
Mrs King added: “The Soroptimist Cup is about personal achievement whether that be from an educational viewpoint, in sport, in the community or elsewhere.
“The winners have achieved in many varied ways and all have been delighted and, in some cases, very surprised at being chosen by Soroptimist International of Crieff.
“This can sometimes be the first acknowledgement of achievement our winners have had, and this in itself leads on to a feeling of wellbeing in them that can provide the confidence to go on and do bigger and better things.
“It is very much part of our club’s programme and we feel it is an honour to praise and support a young girl and wish her well in her future life.”
