Whisky scoops silver honour
A Strath distillery has been awarded a silver medal at the 2017 International Spirit Challenge.
Blackford’s Tullibardine Distillery’s 12- year- old caskstrength The Murray impressed a panel of expert judges at the competition, which recognises dedication, craftmanship and innovation in spiritmaking.
This year’s challenge saw over 1300 entries from almost 70 countries worldwide.
John Tor rance, Tullibardine’s distillery manager, said: “We’re delighted that The Murray is now the proud owner of a medal from this world renowned spirits competition. It’s a great reflection of the exceptional taste profile, craftmanship and quality of our single malt whisky.
“This is the first release in our Marquess Collection, and also the first of our range to be entirely distilled and matured at cask strength this century. Already a firm favourite in our collection, it’s fantastic that it’s been recognised with such a prestigious award.”
This is only the second year of The Murray, which was distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2016. The single malt was named after Sir William Murray, the 2nd Marquess of Tullibardine.
The Murray draws its flavour profile from the Ochil Hills, with notes of peanut brittle, mushroom, wet autumn leaves, apricot, toffee and vanilla, with a distinctive smoky finish.
