Tony goes ton up
Harrier Wayte runs in his 100th race
For the fifth race of the Strathearn Harriers club championship attention moved to the Loch Leven half-marathon.
Organised by Kinross Road Runners, the race comprises a loop round Loch Leven and was run in very good racing conditions, with little breeze and moderate temperatures.
The swarms of midges which had featured in the news the day before failed to materialise.
The performance of the day came from Ben Murphy, who finished in ninth position overall in 1.22.49, taking an impressive four minutes off his time from last year’s race.
Ben’s performance puts him in fifth position in the Scottish U23 halfmarathon rankings.
Next in, in his 100th race for the club, Tony Wayte finished in 1.34.16.
He was followed by Jim Alexander in 1.37.56, with Andy Scott finishing in 1.43.09 and Graeme Aitken in 2.07.01.
The race was won by Iain Whitaker of Edinburgh AC in 1.14.55.
These results move Tony to the top of the championship on 43.82 points, with Ben (36.31) and Andy Gallagher (33.31) completing the top three.
The next championship race is the Kinnoull Hill Race in Perth today (Thursday).
