Global awards for distillery
The team at Tullibardine Distillery are celebrating after picking up a host of global awards for its newest single malt.
The Blackford distillery’s newest single malt The Murray 2004, has won a silver medal at the 2017 International Spirits Challenge, seeing off competition from 1300 other entries from almost 70 countries worldwide.
The 12-year-old malt also picked up a gold medal in the Cask Strength Whisky competition and came top of its category at the Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters.
The panel of judges at each competition were impressed by the Perthshire 2004 malt’s cask strength expression and its flavour profile from the Ochil Hills, creating a taste of peanut brittle, mushroom, wet autumn leaves, apricot, toffee and vanilla, finishing with a smoky finish.
John Torrance, distillery manger at Tullibardine, said these awards were a reflection of their dedicated craftmanship.
He said: “We’re delighted that The Murray has been recognised at all three of these world-renowned spirit competitions.
“It’s a reflection of the remarkable taste profile, craftsmanship and quality of our single malt whisky.
“This is the first release in our Marquess Collection, and also the first of our range to be entirely distilled and matured at cask strength this century.
“Already a firm favourite in our collection, it’s fantastic to see it triumph with a hattrick of prestigious industry awards.”
Tullibardine are now looking forward to releasing The Murray 2005 later this year.
