Relocation celebrated

Perth College UHI’s Crieff Learning Centre has been officially opened following its relocation to new premises in James Square.

Pam Wilson, Perth College UHI vice-principal, academic, cut a specially-commissioned cake to celebrate the event.

An open day on Wednesday was attended by members of the community who enjoyed coffee and cake, met staff and found out about the wide range of provision available through the centre.

Rhona Munro, the college’s head of learning resources, explained: “This was a great opportunity to meet our community and gain feedback about what they would like to see offered in our new location.

“The improved teaching facilities provide local people with the opportunity to access learning and training on their doorstep.”

Learning centre manager, Susan Carter, continued by explaining some of the things that could be undertaken at the new premises.

She said: “We have added brand new courses accredited by Microsoft to our portfolio which will appeal to anyone seeking to improve their employment prospects.

“We are also working with our colleagues in Perth and across the University of the Highlands and Islands to ensure that local people can be supported to achieve recognised qualifications to enhance their career opportunities and to support businesses’ training needs.”

The learning centre was previously based in the annex in the town’s Lodge Street.

That venue is now being looked at by members of Crieff Community Trust, who are exploring the possibility of turning it into a co-working space.

It is hoped the concept will reduce travel times for those heading to and from their jobs and promote flexible working.
