Drumming up cash in fight against cancer
Community support
Generous resident s of Auchterarder and B l a c k fo rd donated hundreds of pounds to a cancer charity at the weekend.
Auchterarder Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Group were out on the High Street in the Lang Toon on Saturday and raised £ 401.02, and a door- todoor collection in Blackford by committee member Helen Laing generated £483.33.
The group’s vice-chair, Christine Steele said: “The local community is always very generous and the money raised will help to ensure that no one should face cancer alone.”
Ailsa Corbett, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Tayside commented: “I am delighted that the Auchterarder Fundraising Group have had such a successful start to fundraising this year. In 2016 Macmillan provided grants to people living with cancer in Auchterarder, totalling almost £1500, to help support with travel costs to and from hospital as well as rising heating bills as a result of side effects from treatment.
“Local benefits advisors were also able to help over 130 people affected by cancer across Perthshire unlock over £1.6million of benefits that they were entitled too. This is why events such as these being held throughout the area are so important as they allow us to continue to support people living with cancer.”
Auchterarder Macmillan Cancer Support’s next event will be a Quiz Night on Friday, September 9, in the Community Church Hall. Tables of four will cost £50 (£12.50 per person) and include a drink and tapas.
