Morrison’s Academy’s recent three- night musical showstopper proved ‘ thoroughly’ entertaining.

Thoroughly Modern Millie played to appreciative audiences from June 13-15.

Set in the fast-paced 1920s, the show – a stage version of the 1967 film musical and adapted from the production which won Best New Musical at the 2002 Tony Awards – sees Millie Dillmount move to New York City in search of a new life for herself.

Millie – played with aplomb by Laura MacDonald in her last school show before embarking on a degree course at Edinburgh University – sees her time in the Big Apple become full of intrigue and mystery.

She samples the flapper lifestyle, makes friends, finds unexpected romance and nearly gets caught up in a white slavery ring – all against the backdrop of a highspirited era featuring iconic fashion trends and signature dance moves such as the Charleston.

Thanks were expressed to Glasgowbased That Looks Good, The Border Studio in Selkirk, Dundee’s Gardyne Theatre, the maintenance and refectory staff at the school, Morrison’s Academy Parents’ Association and Alex Haddow.
