Shell shock in Crieff with bomb discovery

-

A quiet afternoon’s gardening for a Crieff woman turned into a top security drama when she unearthed an unexploded WWII anti-aircraft shell.

Bomb disposal experts were called and residents told to stay indoors.

According to local war veteran Major Gordon Phillips, there were no anti-aircraft guns based permanently in Crieff during the war. There were lots of ammunition dumps in the area, however, and little boys would creep in at night to take a souvenir, burying it in their gardens.
