Spotted at the show
Strath residents flocked to the Royal Highland Show last week to enjoy the four-day event at the heart of the agricultural calendar.
The Herald caught up with some locals at the Ingliston event, which showcases the “best of farming, food and rural life”.
The finest livestock shared centre stage with Scotland’s bountiful larder, with Strath competitors taking part in both these areas.
Sheep from the flocks of Tom and Mairi Paterson of Dunruchun and George Whyte of Lintibert Farm took prizes, with George pleased to report a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, two 4ths, a 5th and a 6th.
In the cattle section the Dargill Simmentals also took prizes, with herd manager Tom Henderson’s magnificent beasts also gaining rosettes.
In the food stakes the steaks of Gordon and Cath Halley of East Lochlane Farm, were deemed to be very tasty, placing them third out of 100 entrants in the Scottish Asda/ABP Beeflink steak competition.
And the owners of Strathearn Cheese Co, Drew Watson and Pierre Leger, were delighted to achieve a handful of awards in their first foray into the show, with the Lady Mary cheese taking a bronze medal and the Strathearn gaining a gold and named as best speciality exhibit, best speciality exhibit from Scotland and best Scottish exhibit. It was also reserve champion.
