Anonymous gift helps park plan swing into action

- Lynn Duke

Friends of MacRosty Park are pushing forward with their plans to have allability swings installed in the flagship park.

And they have been “blown away” by an anonymous bequest, which has taken them to within £10,000 of their fundraising target of £70,000 to provide the special play equipment and its ongoing maintenance costs.

FoMP committee member Isabel Simpson told the Herald: “Crieff is behind us 100%. We stared raising money a year ago and were kicked off by Crieff Round Table who gave us £500. The Co-op gave us £6000 and they have been brilliant - they cannot do enough for us.

“We also had former Morrison’s pupil Elsa Clifford running the Edinburgh Marathon for us this year and she has raised over £500. That was a great effort.

“Lots of locals have also donated money. Even if we get a fiver we are delighted. Every little helps but this latest announcement has just blown us all away. I couldn’t believe it.

“It would have taken us years to raise this kind of money. It has spurred us all on.”

Upcoming fundraisers include stalls at various events including Drummond Castle Open Day on August 6 and a strawberry tea at Duchlage Court on August 12.

A major event will be the Highland Fling in the park on August 19. Isobel added: “We can now see a light at the end of the tunnel. We still have a long way to go but this bequest has given us a massive boost.”
