St Fillans hosts Sandy Lyle Cup day
Saturday was a memorable day in the history of St Fillans Golf Club.
Almost perfect weather, good catering and a full field combined for an enjoyable second Sandy Lyle Biennial Cup.
Competitors travelled from northern England, Aberdeen and Ayrshire to join local golfers and former Masters Champion Sandy Lyle for the event, which also raised money for the Brain Tumour Charity.
A local team came very close last time, but in 2017 the Gypsy Kings – who each have caravans at Loch Earn Caravan Park – were the worthy winners.
Congratulations were expressed to David Sharp, Nelson Mitchell, Jim Morrissey and Willie Stewart, who claimed the cup with an aggregate 143 Stableford points.
The Longest Drive was won by former member Steven Allan of Glasgow.
Graeme Courtney, a St Fillans member who lives in Lochearnhead, beat the rest in the nearest the pin competition.
The best individual score was recorded by David Burberry of Comrie Golf Club with 44 Stableford points.
A club spokesperson said:“Special thanks to Sandy Lyle for his continued and much valued support – he met every player on the day – to our many volunteer club members and to those who made donations.”
