Vale earn victory

Fraser Bremner nets equaliser against Swifts

-

Vale of Earn .......... 3 Jeanfield Swifts .... 2

It was a hard- earned three points on Saturday for Vale of Earn who snatched victory after going two goals down early on.

A slow start saw visitors Jeanfield score early on and further poor defending from a corner saw Swifts double their advantage on 20 minutes.

Despite being behind, Vale were playing well and showed great composure in possession.

Opportunities came and went in ther first half before an excellent team move saw Calum Fraser pull the ball back for Aaron Dawson to slot home into the corner.

The equaliser came when Brian Finlay, who was a constant threat all afternoon, crossed into the box for striker Fraser Bremner to smash beyond the goalkeeper from close range, and the teams went in at half time level. HT: 2-2.

The instructions for the second half were clear: to just keep playing the same philosophy as the first.

A wasteful start to the half saw numerous chances created without finding the net.

Calum Fraser, Brian Finlay and Jamie MacPhee all came close and Fraser Bremner saw his brilliant free kick crash off the underside of the bar.

Trialist goalkeeper Barrie Chiverton also did well on his return to football and made a couple of key blocks at the away strikers’ feet.

The Market Park side did get the decisive goal with 15 minutes remaining through Aaron Smith, who was making his first start of the season, getting his reward for a hard working display by smashing home a thunderous strike from 25 yards which flew over the keeper and sealed the Vale win.

Vale were also unlucky to see a late Jordan Brown penalty brilliantly saved by the Jeanfield goalkeeper.

The three points sees Vale climb up to fourth in the A&B Taxi Premier Division. Vale of Earn have no game this week.

Team: Chiverton, Taylor, Ritchie, Brock, Cassidy, Brown, Dawson, Smith, Finlay, Bremner and Fraser. Subs: MacPhee, Gunn, Gillies, Howie and Myles.

Vale of Earn would like to thank the Square Bar for providing post match hospitality.

There were no fixtures for Auchterarder Primrose or Strathearn Grove at the weekend, however both sides are playing in the second round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Auchterarder travel to Broughty United and Strathearn Grove will host Kettins.
