If you’re saturated by sleigh bells, try to find some time for holiness

-

Are you saturated yet?

From late October the shops have been playing their Christmas music to get us all‘into’the Christmas spirit... but it’s a bit too much, isn’t it?

Certainly we should all prepare for Christmas, and the day we celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus, our Saviour, but I’m not sure that saturating us with sleigh bells will do the trick.

In the Bible, the ancient prophet Isaiah calls the coming Messiah - our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy One. And ‘holiness’is the main word used to describe the very essence of our God.

It is not surprising therefore that the preparation for the Holy One’s birth would be saturated not in noise, but in holiness. God’s holy angel, Gabriel, visited the virgin Mary bringing the good news of great joy, telling her that she would be with child and give birth to a son, and she was to give Him the name Jesus.

The holy angel explained to Mary that the Holy Spirit would come upon her, and the power of the Most High would overshadow her. So the Holy One to be born was to be called the Son of God.

In this time of‘busyness’have you found any time for‘holiness’? Why not take a moment to sit back and wonder about the events of that first Christmas? Being saturated with ‘sleigh bells ringing’may lead to increased‘till bells clinging’but is that really what Christmas is about?

This Christmas, why not put your feet up and have a quiet cuppa. Take a moment for yourself to enjoy, and allow the Spirit of God to come upon you. You may come to find that one moment of stillness leads to an eternity of peace. Have a wonderful time this Christmas, and please come to any of the services in any of the local churches.

With every blessing this Christmas.
