Cinema story with a happy ending
Sparrows, starlings and robins that roost on the roof of Messrs Alexanders Bus garage in Crieff may be having digestion trouble.
No sooner had joiners puttied all the woodwork on 32 large windows of the garage than the birds swooped and devoured the putty, with its linseed oil content.
Over a half a hundred-weight of putty disappeared in a matter of hours.
This week the joiners will be back with more putty but the birds better beware. As soon as the putty goes on a painter will follow to slap on paint.
Two octogenarians, who met at Richmond House, Crieff’s home for old folk, were married at St Andrew’s Church. They are Miss Juliet Dawson (85) and Mr James McNiven (89). Many well wishers attended the wedding. For many years the groom was manager at the Ritz cinema (now Academy Hall). He has lived at Richmond House since 1955 but the bride went there only a year ago.
Some of Comrie’s inhabitants were startled on Sunday night when a loud explosion rocked the village.
The shock was felt at the west end of the village and it occurred at one minute to midnight.
No damage was reported and after investigation the only explanation for the shock, backed up by those with personal experience of earth tremors both in Comrie and the Mediterranean, is that this was one of the village’s earthquakes.
