Appeal for more foster carers

-

Residents in the Strath are being encouraged to think about becoming a foster carer.

Perth and Kinross Council is renewing an appeal for people to give children who are unable to stay with their birth families a secure environment to grow up in.

Additional foster carers are needed, as well as more people who can provide supported lodging for young people who are leaving care.

A spokesperson for PKC said: “Wherever possible, the council looks to provide placements so youngsters can maintain the links they have locally. The only way this can be done, however, is by having carers in the communities around the area.

“Foster carers and supported lodgings do not need formal qualifications - personal qualities like a good sense of humour, patience, compassion and understanding are more important.

“Full training and ongoing support is provided to carers and fees and allowances are paid reflecting the level of commitment and care they provide.”
