Auchterard­er Horticultu­ral Society

The society is holding a new year coffee morning from 10am to 11.30am on Saturday, January 13, in the Aytoun Hall. Entry is £2.50 with no charge for children under 12. As well as home baking and a raffle there will be an opportunit­y to catch up with friends after the holidays.

Auchterard­er SWI

A few business matters were dealt with then members enjoyed their Christmas party at the December meeting. Several games were played and an excellent supper served. The evening finished with a visit from Santa, who had a gift for everyone. Competitio­ns: small Christmas pudding - 1 Rosalie Wilkie, 2 Margaret MacArthur; knitted snowman - 1 Isobel Menzies, 2 Sheena Rennie; flower of the month - Rosalie Wilkie.

Braco and Greenloani­ng SWI

An open meeting will be held on Thursday, January 18, from 7.30pm in Braco Hall. The speaker for the evening will be Michael Cordner and the topic is ‘Arts and Crafts’. Raffle and refreshmen­ts will be available.

Crieff Bridge Club

In the weekly match pointed pairs held in Crieff Golf club on Tuesday, January 2, the results were: 1 Sheila Vass and Eric Starritt 60 per cent, 2 Harry Arbuckle and Jim Harley 59 per cent, 3 Iain Mcbride and Peter Philip 58 per cent, 4 Marc Van Grieken and Phil Tipping 55 per cent. In the weekly match pointed pairs held in Crieff Golf Club on Tuesday, January 9, the results were: NS 1 Marc Van Grieken and Phil Tipping 66 per cent, 2 Jim Harley and Donald Smith 57 per cent, 3 Sheila Vass and Eric Starritt 55 per cent; EW 1 Sheelagh Black and Betty Philip 58 per cent, 2 Ann and Tom Inglis 56 per cent, 3 Catherine Burford and Ian Buchan 55 per cent.

Crieff Probus Club

The dates and topics for the Crieff Probus Club’s spring programme have been announced. At the meeting on Tuesday, January 16, David Gourlay will talk about the air defence of the UK. At the next session on February 6 Alan Blair will talk about Meccano. The club’s AGM takes place on February 20 and on March 6 Kevin Mitchell will give a presentati­on on the Scottish Mountain Rescue Service. On March 20 Estelle Nicol will talk about trekking in Costa Rica and on April 3 Paul Parmenter will talk about The Workshop in Aberfeldy. On April 17 Paul Arbuckle will present an ‘Idiot’s Guide to the Weather’. The topic for the meeting on May 1 is still to be confirmed and on May 15 Neil Combe from Crieff Business Improvemen­t District will talk to the club. Crieff Probus Club meets in the Legion Hall, Perth Road, at 10am on the first and third Tuesday of each month from September to May.
