Auchter­arder Hor­ti­cul­tural So­ci­ety

The so­ci­ety is hold­ing a new year coffee morn­ing from 10am to 11.30am on Satur­day, Jan­uary 13, in the Ay­toun Hall. En­try is £2.50 with no charge for chil­dren un­der 12. As well as home bak­ing and a raf­fle there will be an op­por­tu­nity to catch up with friends after the hol­i­days.

Auchter­arder SWI

A few busi­ness mat­ters were dealt with then mem­bers en­joyed their Christ­mas party at the De­cem­ber meet­ing. Sev­eral games were played and an ex­cel­lent sup­per served. The evening fin­ished with a visit from Santa, who had a gift for ev­ery­one. Com­pe­ti­tions: small Christ­mas pud­ding - 1 Ros­alie Wilkie, 2 Mar­garet MacArthur; knit­ted snow­man - 1 Iso­bel Men­zies, 2 Sheena Ren­nie; flower of the month - Ros­alie Wilkie.

Braco and Green­loan­ing SWI

An open meet­ing will be held on Thursday, Jan­uary 18, from 7.30pm in Braco Hall. The speaker for the evening will be Michael Cordner and the topic is ‘Arts and Crafts’. Raf­fle and re­fresh­ments will be avail­able.

Cri­eff Bridge Club

In the weekly match pointed pairs held in Cri­eff Golf club on Tues­day, Jan­uary 2, the re­sults were: 1 Sheila Vass and Eric Star­ritt 60 per cent, 2 Harry Ar­buckle and Jim Har­ley 59 per cent, 3 Iain Mcbride and Peter Philip 58 per cent, 4 Marc Van Grieken and Phil Tip­ping 55 per cent. In the weekly match pointed pairs held in Cri­eff Golf Club on Tues­day, Jan­uary 9, the re­sults were: NS 1 Marc Van Grieken and Phil Tip­ping 66 per cent, 2 Jim Har­ley and Donald Smith 57 per cent, 3 Sheila Vass and Eric Star­ritt 55 per cent; EW 1 Shee­lagh Black and Betty Philip 58 per cent, 2 Ann and Tom Inglis 56 per cent, 3 Cather­ine Bur­ford and Ian Buchan 55 per cent.

Cri­eff Probus Club

The dates and top­ics for the Cri­eff Probus Club’s spring pro­gramme have been an­nounced. At the meet­ing on Tues­day, Jan­uary 16, David Gourlay will talk about the air de­fence of the UK. At the next ses­sion on Fe­bru­ary 6 Alan Blair will talk about Mec­cano. The club’s AGM takes place on Fe­bru­ary 20 and on March 6 Kevin Mitchell will give a pre­sen­ta­tion on the Scot­tish Moun­tain Res­cue Ser­vice. On March 20 Estelle Ni­col will talk about trekking in Costa Rica and on April 3 Paul Par­menter will talk about The Work­shop in Aber­feldy. On April 17 Paul Ar­buckle will present an ‘Id­iot’s Guide to the Weather’. The topic for the meet­ing on May 1 is still to be con­firmed and on May 15 Neil Combe from Cri­eff Busi­ness Im­prove­ment District will talk to the club. Cri­eff Probus Club meets in the Le­gion Hall, Perth Road, at 10am on the first and third Tues­day of each month from Septem­ber to May.
