races, with husband and wife team Neil and Beth Scholes leading the way at the new year break.

Individual members are busy making plans, with ambitious targets ranging from the 40- mile Clydestrid­e ultra-marathon from Glasgow to New Lanark, assorted half- marathons and marathons the length and breadth of Scotland and further afield – including London and Stirling – numerous hill races including the famous Lairig Ghru race through the Cairngorms, and mountain marathons.

Wattie Mackay and Maddy Watson will be looking to defend their titles as club champions, with the championsh­ip race series kicking off at the Gartmorn 6 trail race in March.

The club welcomes runners of all ages and abilities and there are runs on Monday and Friday mornings and a structured session on Wednesday evenings.

Men’s captain Andy Aitken, with his new Level 2 coaching qualificat­ion, has developed an exciting and innovative programme for the first quarter of the year, which will benefit everyone from beginners to advanced racers.

The Juniors section goes from strength to strength, with increasing numbers turning up for Tuesday and Thursday evening training sessions and races.
