VALE BACK TO WINNINGWAYS

Crieff side come back from behind twice to triumph

- SPORTS REPORTER

Vale of Earn got back to winning ways with a 5- 3 triumph at home against Craigie at the weekend.

Saturday’s tie was scheduled to take place in Market Park but a decision was taken to switch the Division One encounter to the artificial surface at Strathearn Community Campus.

Vale went into the match off the back of a 4- 2 reverse against Luncarty ASC the previous week and, although on top for the majority of this fixture, found themselves behind after 20 minutes when the hosts were hit on the counter attack and the Perth side’s striker finished well.

Vale pressed hard for an equaliser but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept the Strath capital side at bay.

But the home side finally broke down the visitors from the Fair City just before half-time when a cross into the box was headed home Fraser Corbett after he was teedup by Euan Carter.

It was 1-1 at the break and the start of the second half followed much of the same pattern as the first 45 minutes.

Vale looked to be on the front foot but were again caught on the break and the Craigie striker once again scored as a result of the move.

Vale refused to become frustrated, however, and levelled things up when Euan Carter headed home a perfect cross from Darral Cramb.

The hosts forged in front with two excellent goals from the in-form Jake Webster, who showed real class in front of goal on both occasions.

Craigie ensured a nervy finish when they pulled one back.

But Vale wrapped-up the points when Fraser Corbett raced in down the right and squared the ball to Kros Brown, who got his reward for an afternoon of hard work.

Vale of Earn are away to Balmoral Utd in a 2pm league match on Saturday this week.

The club has planned a race night to boost funds at the town’s Station Bar on Saturday, November 23.

All are welcome and the first race at the King Street watering hole is at 8pm.
